Ruby Ripper
It uses cdparanoia in a sophisticated way to make sure that a CD rip is done successfully and accurately. It is very similar to and inspired by EAC. Rubyripper is written in the ruby programming language.
I realise EAC seems to be "the industry" standard for ripping CD's to flac files but I really despise having to use wine unless it's absolutely necessary, for my own ripping needs on Ubuntu I use this very simple tool to do all my CD to flac file ripping. Yes I have used EAC and it is very good although I nearly get a brain annuerism trying to set it all up and that's on windows or on Linux through wine.
If you need a deb for ubuntu, go to the following link

I will add more shortly I just wanted to get a start on this article, I need to get to bed now.
