I couldn't wait to get the Gigaset hooked up and saving me money, so far I am very impressed.
Pros
It replaced 3 handsets and all the leads that went with that set up
You can add up to 6 handsets
Cons
It comes with a dinky light weight cradle, sometimes finding the right spot to sit the phone on can be difficult.
Configuration
Setting this device up is too easy, I only say that because setting up an ATA can often be a pain in the arse. Not that it's hard but because of different VoIP providers, different handsets etc. sometimes you have to have a fiddle with settings. Sure there are some great tutorials but they can't advise for every variable that is out there. Google is your friend though, usually someone has the exact hardware you have or something similar.
With Siemens Gigaset C470 IP there is not that many options you can change unlike my PAP2T, when I first entered my MNF details, it said "Registration failed", I rechecked my details just to be sure, they were fine. I scratched my head, I configured most of the settings from the units web page. I unticked "active" then reticked it and MNF was registered after a few seconds, phew! Easy Peasy.
New Router - connecting the C470 IP
I recently purchased a new router an ASUS RT-N16, as I use Tomato firmware and did also use Tomato on my WRT54GL I just used the same settings for QoS and port forwarding, yep I use static IPs on my network so it's always easy to set up and new hardware.
Where I purchased it from
I bought the unit from Jason at JMG Technology probably my favourite place to buy my hardware, if JMG stock what I am looking to purchase, nine times out of ten Jason will get my business, even if his price is a little more than others sometimes.
More to come!
