ISPs, Pricing, Who, Exchanges etc.
Let me say straight up I am not, never will be, and unlikely in the future to ever be a fan of BigPond/Telstra the why's are out of the scope of this article, sufficed to say I will never suggest BigPond to anyone for their Broadband services! In fact I will go out of my way to suggest someone else instead.
Also I am not at all a fan of having to bundle your broadband connection and Landline Telephone, I think it sucks simple as that, though I can see why some people do, I prefer to use whatever provider of services that give me the most freedom of choice for a good price, sometimes all-in-one services are just not the best way, it's just the vibe I get ;o)
Some people need certain features from their ISP, I will not go into that, though I will explain who has more features and hence why they may cost more.
Remember I am writing this for people who want to save money and are not so savvy about the Interweb. I am not writing this for Gamers, I.T. professionals or the so called 12 year old experts that think they know everything, even though mummy and daddy are paying all the bills. It was mentioned that I should write something down for people who don't have that much money because of disability or hardship or just want to save money, so they can pay the bills.
I think it will be a multi page article so please take not at the bottom of the article it will link to the other pages!
The article will touch on some cheaper but more reputable ISPs, also talk about more expensive but more featured ISPs, you have to weigh up whether you need the features or not, just the same as if you need a $5000 Computer with all the best features that you will probably never need or use to it's full extent, or if a second hand or $600 computer will do just fine for how you use it.
Always remember no matter what the experts say (probably to scare you into paying them to fix something) I promise you the whole PC computing world whether it be building them or fixing them is not that difficult, mostly it's time not a lot else. Services like data recovery and the like can be very expensive and is a little more difficult than some services. Considering you can Build a decent PC for about $500-600 honestly why would you bother spending hundreds getting something fixed.
Oh as far as data recovery and the like, WHY the HELL would you need it if you backed up the Important stuff on your PC. People are told this time and time again yet they don't listen, you only have yourself to blame, considering burners cost about $50 and blank discs are very cheap these days, you really do only have yourself to blame.
Anyway I am way off topic as usual this is about saving money and using your broadband connection to save you even more in the long run. Some of the things I will suggest will indeed cost you money to setup, yes it's a bitch but well worth it.
I will only talk about Internet speeds from 512/128 up as anything lower will not allow you to do much else in the way of saving money 256/64 speed although shits on dial up just isn't enough to take you to the next level of what you can do unfortunately. You can of course start off on this and then upgrade though it may be worth starting with 512/128 and then thinking about upgrading at a later date if you need to.
The second page of this article I will talk about speeds and bandwidth and Megabytes and Gigabytes etc so people get an idea of what it's all about and get used to the different terms that are used and why you should never sign up with BigPond's 200MB plans, they could end up costing you literally thousands even 10s of thousands, yes absolutely true!!!
