Altec Lansing MX5021 THX - Speakers - HTPC

I had an old $40 pair of speakers from years ago, they would probably be worth about $10 these days, since building the MythTV box I really needed to upgrade.

I had wanted these speakers for what seemed like years (probably about 12 months in reality) I finally raised the funds and splashed out and bought them.

I specifically wanted the Altec Lansing MX5021's because they sounded really good for music and of course sound great when watching the TV. I wasn't interested in 5.1's at this stage as I mainly watch video files and rarely DVD's that really would need 5.1 speakers. I don't play games on the MythTV box it's a media centre only plus of course it's linux so it's not as if they make the latest games for Linux anyway.

Black or White

I really wanted the black MX5021's but I couldn't get them, well not easily anyway, plus I wanted to pay by PayPal, so the white ones were it. I looked at the Logitechs but I really don't like to be a sheep and there are to many fanboys for Logitech lol.

Altec Lansing or Logitech

I know the Logitechs are good but for the MythTV box I really didn't want Big Booming Bass that the Logitechs are reknowned for.

FLAC's the only way to go

Make no mistake though, the MX5021's is superb, these speakers have also made me aware just how crap low bitrate MP3's really are. From now on definately won't rip any CDs any lower than 256kpbs and will preferably rip them to FLAC format.

Wireless Remote Control

I also knew the MX5021's could be remote controlled by the Logitech Harmony 525 Universal remote control, the little remote they come with is a dinky tiny little thing so I left it in it's bubblewrap and configured the Harmony 525. No probs you just choose it from the online wizard!
