pfSense - Traffic Shaping in progress
I have finally cracked it eg. why traffic shaping was not working as well as I would have liked. I read lots and I mean lots (no life), after reading much about VoIP setup information on forums etc.
I came across some more about the ranges I should have port forwarded for my ATA (LinksysPAP2T), I forwarded the ports in pfsense firewall and wouldn't ya know, traffic shaping is now working perfectly, well at least from the initial testing I have done.
I did some testing with P2P (bittorrent) going fairly much as quick as the particular file would download. It wasn't a well seeded file and I am on 512/128 through exetel who supposedly shapes P2P traffic at certain times of the day.
I will attach 2 screenshots below, one is with P2P going and the next is with P2P going while I made a phone call.

The relevant Queues to look at are qP2PUP and qP2PDOWN

The relevant queues here are the qVOIPUP and qVOIPDOWN. You can now compare the queues and see how VOIP has slowed downn the P2P queues for the bandwidth it needs.
I still have much to learn but am very happy with the results, now I have to test it by getting mumsy to give me a call from the DID (Direct In Dial) number which is located near the country town where she lives.
