Firmware comes in many flavours, some have a nice gui, some are more Command line orientated, some do QoS better than others, it pays to give them all a try and see which suits you best.

I recently purchased an ASUS RT-N16 router to use as a gateway for my network, so far I am very impressed with this unit. Due to limited funds I rarely can afford to buy the latest and greatest hardware that appears on the market, the WRT54GL was on the market for years before I bought one, the price for that unit hasn't really changed much since I first purchased it, it's a classic that's for sure.
